Most of you are thinking, why is little miss healthy writing about burgers, but the truth is I too love a good Burger and fries every now and again- just please don’t give me any cheap fast food crap (we all know which notorious chains I’m talking about)!
I’m always on the lookout for new food-related places to try and I recently came across Just Burger. The past few years Malta has really impressed me with its variety of restaurants and cuisines, not to mention some really good burger joints, and this is one of them.
Just Burger is a funky fresh haven that has found itself a good spot in the, what I like to call, ‘finer fast food’ market. Brought to Malta by the beautiful Swedes to give your standard burger a simple, no nonsense twist. Their set up is pretty neat and I love the black-green-grey colour scheme they have going on. Everything on their menu is freshly made with none of those pesky preservatives, frowned upon frozen food or artificial anything.
My friend and I ended up trying quite a few of their burgers as I couldn’t really decide which to choose. Now I’m not a 100% vegetarian or vegan, however a substantially big part of my diet is, so I was pretty excited to find out that the Just Burger crew don’t just offer one whole veggie option, but several! And they’re real good!
All About the Burgers
One of my favourites is definitely their veggie beetroot burger. I usually do not buy or eat anything beetroot-y…but this burger changed my mind. It has a mild and slightly sweet flavour that goes so well with one of their sauce-y sides (I put some wasabi mayo and a teeny bit of their tarragon mayo…so yum!). Another favourite of mine would have to be their vegan burger. It’s made up of chickpeas and that awesome superfood that packs a nutritious punch; Chia seeds. The chia seeds are what bind all the ingredients together to make a wonderfully yummy vegan burger. I smeared a little bit of their Habanero sauce over the patty and that kick of spice really was the cherry on the cake.
As a non-veggie burger I gave their salmon one a go and biting into it instantly brought back memories of my trips to Sweden. The salmon was wrapped in flavour from the dill and cooked to perfection. This burger along with its relish really makes you feel like you’re eating a baked Swedish-style salmon fillet in a bun!
But Baby the Fries!
Oh and last but not least, I had to give them a paragraph of their own; the fries. I’m going to go ahead and say it; they’re the best I’ve tried on the island! The right amount of salt, crunch and oozing potato goodness all packed in a slim little French Fry . You kinda need to go there to try them out for yourself, and once you’re there, add a handmade fresh burger 😉
